Things you need to do after buying a used car

Buying a used car can be a good decision for many people as the market for the used cars in Fresno is growing day by day. You have just got your great deal on a used car, it’s excellent! But before you take your car out for a spin you need to do the following things first.

  1. Transfer the title

The first step that you need to take is to secure a clean title to your vehicle. The title of any vehicle basically serves as an official record of ownership of that vehicle. Title transfer is a very important step if you have bought your car from a private seller. You will want to make sure that there are no liens which are listed at the back of the title document. In case there are, then make sure that the seller can provide you with official statements from the bank and other lien holders that all of the prior loans on that car have been paid off.

In case you have brought your car from a dealership, then they will most likely take care of all the essential paperwork that needs to be done for you.

  1. Get your car insured

Once you have the title in your hand, more of the paperwork is needed to file before you can hit the road in your new car. Most of the states need you to secure insurance for your vehicle before you register it and get the licensed plates.

In this case, if you will buy your car from a dealer, then there are chances that they will walk you through all these steps or in some of the cases may even file the paperwork on your behalf.

  1. Get your car inspected by a mechanic

Ideally, the case should be that the mechanic should have inspected the car prior to purchasing. But, even if you gave your car a pre-sale check-up then it makes sense to bring your car to some trusted mechanic for a thorough inspection and some basic preventive maintenance after the purchase of the car.
